Overview
The Lutheran Church of Webster Gardens is seeking a full-time Director of Operations to lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the church, ensuring the effective and faithful use of resources in support of our mission and ministry goals. Reporting directly to the Senior Pastor, this role provides leadership in the areas of financial management, human resources, communications, facilities, information technology, office/ministry support, and operational strategy.
The ideal candidate will be a servant leader with strong financial acumen, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and a heart for ministry.

POSITION ACCOUNTABLE TO: Senior Pastor.
PURPOSE: The Director of Operations is responsible for overseeing the church’s day-to-day operations to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources to support the church’s mission and ministry goals. The position oversees several functions simultaneously and must collaborate across the organization to align operational practices with the church’s vision while fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and stewardship. This role will also organize and implement strategic initiatives with the Senior Pastor and church Board of Directors.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Management
- Manage contributions, non-cash gifts, disbursements, tuition, grants, partnerships, endowments, scholarship funds, building campaigns, and stewardship efforts.
- Manage cash flow in bank accounts, credit cards, investments, and designated funds to ensure responsible stewardship of resources.
- Supervise staff and volunteer accounting support to ensure timely processing and accurate financial records in compliance with laws and regulations.
- Provide timely financial reports and information to the Senior Pastor, staff, Board of Directors, and Congregation.
- Collaborate with the Treasurer, Senior Pastor, staff, and Board of Directors to develop and monitor budgets and financial forecasts.
- Oversee implementation of processes, controls, systems, and technology to safeguard and manage church assets and liabilities.
- Manage risk and insurance coverage (e.g., liability, property/casualty, workers’ compensation); identify and mitigate potential areas of risk.
- Ensure operational practices align with church policies and support mission and ministry goals.
Human Resources
- Oversee staffing, benefits administration, and personnel/payroll records and processes.
- Develop and maintain job descriptions and employment agreements.
- Supervise church staff in coordination with the Personnel Committee and Senior Pastor.
- Facilitate a dashboard of key performance measures (KPMs) to track ministry effectiveness.
- Collaborate with staff to set annual goals and conduct evaluations aligned with mission.
- Recommend staffing structure to support long-term sustainability and growth.
- Work with the Personnel Committee to implement personnel policies, procedures, and compensation plans.
Communications
- Oversee church-wide communications; supervise the Director of Communications.
- Support communication efforts across platforms (website, app, texting, email, print, video, etc.).
- Collaborate with teams and individuals for special promotions and ministry initiatives.
Facilities
- Supervise and collaborate with the Facilities Manager and team to maintain and improve campus resources.
- Manage vendor contracts and service agreements; oversee vendor performance.
- Assess contractor bids and coordinate capital projects with the Properties Team.
- Coordinate real estate transactions (purchases, leases, dispositions, and financing).
- Manage disposal of church property and assets.
Information Technology
- Oversee IT infrastructure and security protocols (network, email, file storage, collaboration tools).
- Resource technology vendor contracts and service agreements to support the ministries of the church.
- Manage and support ministry-related technology systems, including:
- Church management software, financial systems, and communications platforms
- Human resource systems (benefits, retirement, health-spending accounts)
- Facilities systems (security/access, HVAC, records, etc.)
Administrative Supervision
- Supervise the Office Coordinator and Financial Administrator.
- Support ministry needs, ensure data integrity, and provide resources for church initiatives.
