Position Title: Art Teacher

Division: Elementary

Supervisor: Division Principal

Position Summary:

The Elementary art teacher prepares art curriculum and provides age-appropriate instruction, as well as evaluates student performance and progress for students in elementary school in preschool (age 4) through grade 5. The art teacher guides students to reflect on their growth as an artist. The Elementary art teacher leads annual/seasonal art shows for parents. The Elementary art teacher is assisted in the classroom by an art teaching assistant, and collaborates with the Secondary art teacher. In order to meet Concordia expected student learning results (ESLRs) and subject specific grade level expectations, the teacher carries out the following domains: Planning and Preparation, Classroom Management, Instruction, and Professional Responsibilities.

Requirements:

Education

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Education with specialization in Art

Desired: Advanced degree or specialization training in Art Education

Experience:

Required: Minimum 3 years successful teaching in a school setting

Desired: Experience in an international school

Familiarity with the American educational system and the National Core Arts Standards

Experience with an ethnically diverse population

Experience with planning and implementing art shows.

Priority Given for:

Proficiency in differentiation, especially for EAL learners

Candidates grounded in knowledge of Art content and pedagogy

General Expectations:

As a school grounded in the Christian faith, Concordia prioritizes candidates who are practicing Christians who are interested in the complex questions of faith and spirituality and who are keen to interact with others from different faith traditions.

Full-time teachers lead an after-school activity once per week throughout the year.

On regular school days, all teachers are on campus between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM, not inclusive of activities and meetings.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Planning and Preparation

Instructional and curriculum planning

Use knowledge of content, students, pedagogy, and resources to design coherent instruction

Plan, revise, record, and follow units that provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences

Select instructional goals

Gather data through assessments and analyze student work to provide a clear, rigorous, and relevant curriculum.

Manage classroom procedures and maintain clear rules and procedures; establish routines for daily tasks and needs

Manage student behavior and provide consistent and appropriate discipline

Orchestrate smooth transitions and continuity of momentum

Organise space and materials to provide effective instruction and a safe learning environment.

Pastoral Care:

Respond to students’ emotional and social needs

Model interpersonal skills, respectful relationships, and problem‐solving, in order to provide a safe learning environment.

Instruction:

Deliver developmentally appropriate learning experiences for students; Use a variety of questioning and discussion techniques to engage students in learning

Provide differentiated support and instruction to ensure that students develop understanding of content and apply skills.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to students

Implement best practice in instructional strategies.

 

Assessment:

Assess student learning.

Plan and administer a variety of appropriate diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments

Analyze and use the data provided by the assessments to guide instruction.

Collect and review data related to goals and Concordia competencies in order to improve planning and preparation, classroom management, instruction, or meeting professional responsibilities.

Participate in professional growth experiences such as courses, workshops, or conferences in order to improve planning and preparation, classroom management, instruction, and grow professionally.

About Concordia International School Hanoi

Concordia International School Hanoi is a private, non-profit, co-educational, international day school with English instruction. Fluency in English is required for entry. EAL support is available. Concordia is governed by a Board of Trustees, comprised of corporate executives who support and promote Concordia’s development and growth. Concordia was founded in 2011 as a Preschool to Grade 7 institution and has annually added the next higher grade level. The first high school graduation took place June 2017.
