POSITION TITLE:  Director of Parish Music

Line of Responsibility:  The Director of Parish Music (DPM) will be responsible to the Senior Pastor and work closely with the Board of Elders. The DPM will provide leadership, support and encouragement to our music ministry, including the Traditional Worship Services, various instrumentalists and choirs. The DPM will also provide leadership for our children’s music ministry.

Qualifications:  The DPM shall have a background in music with some experience that exhibits leadership of worship and music. The DPM shall have experience working with elementary school age children. A four-year college degree in education or parish music from one of the Concordia Colleges or Universities is preferred. The DPM shall also have proficiency in playing the organ. The DPM shall be open to further training opportunities. The DPM shall understand and have an appreciation for Lutheran theology, liturgy, hymnody and choral music. The DPM shall be a committed Christian, have strong organizational and group facilitation skills, enjoy and be able to work well with adults, youth and children while administering and leading our music programs.

Additional Skills- would be willing to learn if not already competent:  Presentation software: Pro-Presenter, Planning Center, Sound, streaming, recording.

Purpose of Position:  The Director of Parish Music (DPM) is to provide leadership and support to the congregation in its worship services and in its music ministry for all ages.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary:

Work closely with the Senior Pastor and Board of Elders to determine the vision and direction of Mt. Calvary’s music and worship program.
Worship Services
Work with the Pastor to plan meaningful liturgical worship expressed in a variety of styles
Participate in weekly worship planning meetings.
Lead the Traditional services in song and musical parts of the liturgy.
Recruit and train musicians to present a vibrant worship experience.
Oversight, planning, coordination and support of the various music ministries of Mt. Calvary in the Congregation’s Vision: “Connecting people to Jesus and to one another to serve the world.”
Oversee the Traditional Worship Service
Lead the Traditional Worship service each week in consultation with the Senior Pastor.
o     Recruit and train musicians to present a vibrant worship experience.

o    Provide counsel from a musician’s point of view to the Director of Media Ministries

·         Provide Music support and leadership for wedding and funeral services.

·         Supervise all music and worship staff and volunteers.

Direct the Sanctuary Choir, Children’s Choir, and Hand bell Choir so that participants in music ministry might use their gifts to glorify God and enhance our worship services in song.
Encourage the growth of the music and worship ministries across all age groups at Mt. Calvary.
Recruit and train volunteers and set goals to start and oversee new musical groups.
Care and maintenance for all musical instruments and facility upkeep in consultation with the Board of Trustees.
Care and maintenance of the library of music, music budget and proper music licenses.
Work with the Pastoral staff to plan worship themes throughout the year.
Coordinate our children’s music ministry with team partnership with the Pastor of Youth and Education, including our Sunday School, Wednesday night classes and activities, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Christmas program, and Seasonal Music Ministry Events.
Secondary Objectives:

·         Bring music support to Rebecca’s Garden of Hope tutoring center

·         Provide staff support, counsel, and leadership to a Ministry Board of the congregation as they uplift and support the mission and ministry of Mount Calvary.

·         Additional ministry support based on the candidate’s gifts may be needed.

·         Plan and help assist in using music as a means to connect to the greater community.

 

Desirable but not required skills:

·         Lead the Contemporary Worship service each week in consultation with the Senior Pastor.

Help with the layout of the weekly order of worship bulletin order of service.
Position category:  Full-Time salaried, called or contracted position.

Salary and Benefits:  The DPM will be compensated and receive vacation time using the Florida-Georgia District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) Salary and Benefit Guidelines as a reference. Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance is provided to all full-time employees and their families with the premiums and deductibles currently paid by the church. Retirement benefits are provided through Concordia Plans. Workman’s Compensation Insurance also covers the worker.
