Position Title: Athletics/Activities Director & Physical Education Teacher

Division: Middle School (MS) & High School (HS)

Supervisor: HS Principal

Start Date: August 1, 2025

Position Summary:

At Concordia International School Hanoi (CISH), we believe students learn every bit as much from experiences beyond the walls of the classroom as they do in their academic courses.  This position is an opportunity to direct our activities and athletics program and our activities program. Our aim is to continue to develop an exciting, progressive, and learning-focused program that includes offerings that appeal to a wide range of students. Our Athletics/Activities Director has the authority and responsibility to envision, organize, and deliver an outstanding menu of curricular, co-curricular, school-sponsored, and school-authorized activities. Position Qualifications:

Education

[required] Bachelor’s degree
[required] Valid teaching credential from an authorized governmental agency in the applicant’s country of origin or from the Association of Christian Schools International
[desired] Bachelor’s or advanced degree in education, physical education, or fitness
[desired] Athletics director certification or coach certification.

Professional Experience

[required] Minimum 1 year of successful experience as an Athletic Director or equivalent
[required] Minimum 3 years of successful teaching in a school setting
[required] Minimum of 5 years of professional experience
[desired] Experience scheduling domestic and international tournaments
[desired] Experience working in an international school setting
[desired] Familiarity with the American educational system
[desired] Experience working successfully with an ethnically diverse population
[desired] Experience working with students with specific learning needs
[desired] Experience working with English Language Learners (ELLs).

Prioritized Experience

[highly desired] Prior varsity or university coaching experience
[desired] First aid certification
[desired] Familiarity with Physical Education Model Content Standards (CA).

Desired Skills & Program Familiarity:

PowerSchool Learning
Google Suite cloud applications: Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, etc.
Video conferencing software including Zoom
Standards-based learning, assessment, grading, and reporting (SBL, SBG, SBA, SBR)
Online / remote / distance learning
Tech skills including media editing and preparation
Social-emotional learning programs such as Advisory.

General Expectations:

As a school grounded in the Christian faith, Concordia prioritizes candidates who are practicing Christians, interested in the complex questions of faith and spirituality, and keen to interact with others from different faith traditions. In terms of general working hours, the Athletics/Activities Director will:

During the school year: Work on all teacher work days as specified on the school calendar.  Additionally, be prepared to devote considerable hours in the evening and on weekends to ensure a smoothly running, safe, and effective program.  Be available for student travel, off-campus field experiences, and international travel.
During the summer: Hours and days will be determined if/as necessary.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

As a key leader at Concordia Hanoi, our Activities/Athletics Director is expected to perform the following duties and any other duties as assigned by the Head of School or High School Principal:

Leadership & Management

Seeks, by personal example, to inspire students and staff in Christian faith and living
Envisions, develops, and implements our school’s entire athletics and activities program
Is a champion for the Thunder Way
Sets clear norms and consistently upholds school expectations for all community members
Demonstrates humility, a willingness to be coached, and ability to receive feedback well
Builds and fosters excellent positive relationships with students, staff, and partners
Provides mentoring, supervision, and support for P.E. teachers and/or coaches
Convenes and presides at coaching staff meetings and attends P.E. department meetings.
Collaborates with and provides direction to the assistant director for athletics and activities.

Organization, Communication, & Recruiting

Demonstrates truly outstanding organizational and time management skills
Communicates positively and professionally at all times both verbally and in writing
Recruits and hires sponsors, coaches, and workers (e.g., fitness center supervisors, etc.)
Oversees and manages tournaments/competitions held on-site, including by handling competition logistics (e.g., officials, scorekeepers, timekeepers, team transportation, rosters, facilities bookings, visa applications, necessary food and lodging, spectator seating, first aid, public address system, scoreboard, rules and forms, awards, team photographs, refreshments for visiting coaches, showers, towels, etc.)
Ensures that students participating in co-curricular activities meet eligibility requirements
Schedules and publicizes competitions and events in consultation with the principal(s) and/or responsible representatives of other schools/organizations involved
Assists coaches in keeping records and in enforcing P.E./Athletics department regulations
Fulfill responsibilities in teacher job description for any classes the Director teaches.
Recruits advisors and oversees and manages a rich after school activities program including student led activities.

Budgeting & Purchasing

Provides input to administration for developing budget and prepares P.E. and athletics/activities operating and capital requests after consulting with other personnel
Submits P.E. and athletics/activities purchase orders, repair requests, etc.

Facilities & Inventory Management

Manages care and control of resources and records for P.E. and activities/athletics (e.g., fiscal records, uniforms, equipment, resales, inventories, locks, lockers, etc.).

Health, Safety, and Risk Management

Oversees health, safety, and risk management aspects of school activities
Provides for a safe environment for students by establishing and enforcing safety procedures as well as by furnishing adequate safety training, supplies, and equipment.

About Concordia International School Hanoi

Concordia International School Hanoi is a private, non-profit, co-educational, international day school with English instruction. Fluency in English is required for entry. EAL support is available. Concordia is governed by a Board of Trustees, comprised of corporate executives who support and promote Concordia’s development and growth. Concordia was founded in 2011 as a Preschool to Grade 7 institution and has annually added the next higher grade level. The first high school graduation took place June 2017.
