Position Summary:

The Elementary School Principal is an educational leader who communicates and enables faculty and staff to achieve the school’s Vision of successfully providing high-quality education for students within the aligned framework of the school’s Mission, Values, and Expected Student Learning Results (ESLRs). To realize the Vision of Concordia, the Elementary School Principal works collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and parents to meet student needs, monitors progress toward school goals, fosters a sense of community, and ensures the facilities and support services meet the needs of students both currently and in the future. The Elementary School Principal is part of the Senior Leadership Team and Leadership Team, which work to ensure that the educational and physical systems of the elementary school support a professional, highly competent, caring, holistic, and effective educational experience for students in preschool through grade six.  This role includes direct supervision and mentorship of the Elementary Vice Principal.

Requirements:

Education

Required: Bachelor’s Degree in a job-related area.

Desired: Master’s Degree and/or Advanced Degree and/or Certification in Educational Leadership or Administration.

Experience

Required: Minimum 5 years of teaching experience and 5 years as a principal with leadership experience at a senior level, with demonstration of increasing responsibilities.

Desired: Experience, preferably within an international school setting, with proven success working with a diverse student population from a wide variety of cultural, social, and religious backgrounds. Management of a team of 10 or more faculty, preferably in an American educational system environment.

Ability to articulate the developmental needs of elementary school-aged students and translate these needs into vision and action.

Ability to supervise personnel for monitoring performance, providing for professional growth, and achieving overall objectives of the school’s instructional program.
Ability to facilitate the development, improvement, and evaluation of the curriculum and instructional services.
Ability to develop school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students.
Ability to prepare and manage the elementary school budget.
Ability to serve as a liaison between the school and community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community involvement with the school.
Ability to provide direction to others and to make independent judgments.
Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds.
Ability to effectively manage and multitask within a demanding and dynamic environment.
Ability to facilitate conversations and discussions that provide for a collaborative environment that involves people in decisions and builds teams.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Curriculum/Program Development
Provide leadership for curriculum development, monitor achievement of curriculum goals, and ensure that students have opportunities to achieve the school’s Expected Student Learning Results (ESLRS). Provide leadership for developing standards-based assessments and reporting tools, and systems.

Assess programs against student performance data, the needs of students, parent expectations, and schoolwide goals to ensure that they continue to be effective. Set annual and long-range goals for program improvement.

Student Life
Provide leadership together with the faculty for the After School Activities program, ensuring that the program provides supportive communities and rich, rewarding, and developmental experiences for students.

Establish and monitor policies governing student life and promote a culture that encourages student self-reflection, self-discipline, and the assumption of responsibility for their behavior and decisions. Support faculty efforts in discipline and counseling.

Community Relations and Development
Develop a strong sense of community within the division and within the school. Maintain a positive school climate where all students, faculty, and staff have the opportunity to be recognized.

Maintain effective communication between school and home about individual student progress and school goals; involve parents in significant school decisions. Be an active supporter of the after-school student activity programs and parent events.

Leadership, Recruitment, Supervision, Evaluation, and Development of Staff
Together with the Head of School, Faculty leaders, and the Human Resources team, recruit and retain top-quality faculty to ensure that they are able to effectively carry out the mission and vision of Concordia and meet the unique needs of elementary school students.

Provide visionary leadership that fosters a positive and effective learning environment. Supervise and evaluate faculty to ensure that they continue to be effective in the classroom, leading activities, and contributing to Concordia’s Christian and spiritual life. Ensure that all teachers and staff have a clear understanding of their performance expectations. This includes regularly observing teachers in classrooms and providing feedback on teaching to facilitate student learning and the ongoing improvement of instruction. Provide leadership and support to develop teachers’ conceptual knowledge and skills in the best instructional and assessment practices through coaching, modeling, or in-service workshops.

Encourage and support teachers’ professional development so that teachers continuously improve their instruction and overall effectiveness. Foster a sense of collegiality through effective team planning and decision-making, involving faculty in Elementary School goal setting and planning. Develop the leadership capabilities of teachers so that instructional leadership becomes a shared responsibility.

Financial Management
Responsible for sound financial management, including accurate program budget planning and fiscal accountability to ensure that the elementary school’s resources are effectively and properly utilized.

About Concordia International School Hanoi

Concordia International School Hanoi is a private, non-profit, co-educational, international day school with English instruction. Fluency in English is required for entry. EAL support is available. Concordia is governed by a Board of Trustees, comprised of corporate executives who support and promote Concordia’s development and growth. Concordia was founded in 2011 as a Preschool to Grade 7 institution and has annually added the next higher grade level. The first high school graduation took place June 2017. Concordia International School Hanoi is a sister school with Concordia International School Shanghai and Hong Kong International School.
