Position Title: Middle School/High School Spanish Teacher

Divisions: Middle School and High School

Supervisor: Director of Teaching and Learning

Position Summary: 

The Middle School/High School Spanish teacher should have experience in effectively delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse group of learners at the middle school and high school levels.  Experience in working with students who have emerging English proficiency is desired. Comfort in teaching higher levels is greatly preferred.

A high-quality candidate has demonstrated evidence and experience in teaching for understanding, using data to inform instruction, and proactive communication with all stakeholders in a school setting.  The ideal candidate believes that social-emotional learning and an advisory model are as important to students as academic learning. The ideal candidate has experience in or a desire to work in a school that embraces a standards-based assessment and reporting model.

A strong candidate has the desire to collaborate closely with colleagues and school leadership to find the best learning outcomes for students.  The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of using the Google Suite, is comfortable using learning management software to report grading and provide timely feedback, and understands how to use technology to maximize learning outcomes.

General Expectations:

As a school grounded in the Christian faith, Concordia prioritizes candidates who are practicing Christians, who are interested in the complex questions of faith and spirituality, and who are keen to interact with others from different faith traditions.

On regular school days, teachers are on campus between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM, not inclusive of activities and meetings. Full-time teachers lead an after-school activity throughout the school year and also participate in student travel and off-campus field experiences.

Education and Professional Requirements:

Qualified and licensed teacher in relevant subject area
University degree in education or teaching
Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching in a middle school and/ or high school environment (grades 6-12)
High degree of fluency in Spanish is required
Preferred experience working in an international school.

General Responsibilities: 

Plan and deliver lessons across middle school (G6-8) and high school (G9-12)
Deliver lessons and learning activities that guide students toward understanding
Deliver content and lessons to small groups of students in a middle school advisory program (dependent upon program need)
Evaluate and advocate for the advancement of the curriculum
Effectively communicate student learning progress to parents, colleagues, leadership, and students
Lead after-school activities or athletics programs
Participate in student travel and off-campus field experiences
Participate in departmental meetings, parents’ informational meetings, and whole-school training events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Proficiency in Spanish language (native or near-native fluency) and comprehensive understanding of grammar, vocabulary, and cultural nuances.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to use technology for instructional purposes and integrate it into the learning process.
Comfort with the Google Suite to enhance student learning.
