Job Title: Director of Music
Reports To: Galilee Church Council
Direct Supervisor: Pastor of Galilee Lutheran Church
Salary: Salary will be determined based on level of experience and will be approved by the Church Council. As a salaried employee of the church, a retirement fund is offered by Concordia.
Summary:
Galilee Lutheran is a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LCMS) congregation in Pasadena MD, whose vision is to be a beacon of hope to our region with the life-giving message of Jesus Christ. Galilee has identified as a key priority that the worship experience, both traditional and contemporary, should be befitting of the worship of such a great God, while conveying the lifegiving Word to those gathered. We seek a qualified Director of Music who shares this passion. Under the supervision of the Pastor, the Director of Music will develop and implement a high quality music program befitting of the worship of God that edifies both guests and members and develops and deploys the musical talents of the musicians serving Galilee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Contemporary Worship
· Be able to lead the musicians and singers of the Praise team and provide encouragement and training, as needed. Promote an atmosphere of community where members experience personal and spiritual growth;
· Meet Monthly with the Worship Team for the purpose of selecting music and coordinating the planning of worship and music;
· Schedule and conduct weekly rehearsals in the church; and
· Work with love, energy and imagination in order to inspire congregational singing.
Traditional Worship
· Develop and direct choir rehearsals during September – June. During the summer months, schedule individuals and small groups from within the congregation to provide special music when available;
· Ability to play the organ preferred;
· Schedule the choir to sing at least monthly during September – June and possibly include the contemporary worship service; and
· Recruit and schedule special music to further enhance the worship experience.
Related Duties
· Promote/educate the congregation on church music;
· Proficiency in organ and piano;
· Ability to recruit and manage volunteers;
· Ability to create an energetic spiritual experience that connects and inspires;
· Work with the media personnel on the audio and visual aspects of the worship services; and
· Work with Sunday School leaders and children on developing a Children’s choir.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree in Music related field is preferred;
· Familiar with the doctrine of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod; and
· Competency in and appreciation of both traditional and contemporary Christian music.
Salary
$30,000 – $55,000 – based on experience and education
