JOB TITLE: 5th and 6th Grade Homeroom Teacher – Full Time

DEPARTMENT: Holy Ghost Lutheran School

LOCATION: Monroe, MI

REPORTS TO: Holy Ghost Lutheran Church Board of Christian Day School and Principal

BASIC FUNCTION:

Instruct 5th and 6th grade students in a variety of subjects to develop academic and social-emotional skills that prepare them for advancement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan and develop course study suitable for 5th and 6th grade following curriculum guidelines of the school, state, and federal education departments. Holy Ghost has compartmentalized learning for middle school aged students.
Develop and present specific lesson plans using a variety of means, including lectures, projects, group discussions, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library resources, computers, and the Internet.
Prepare assignments and tests (as applicable) for in-school preparation and homework. Monitor, assist, correct, and grade student performance.
Conduct applicable standardized tests in accordance with school policies and state law.
Maintain order in the classroom and administer discipline when necessary.
Counsel students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise.
Maintain records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation. Report on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conduct parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and as-needed basis.
Consult with other professionals as needed to address learning disabilities or social-emotional needs. Coordinate decisions with parents concerning specialized intervention plans. Report cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
Support the spiritual life of the school, which may include, but not be limited to, the teaching of religion class(es).
Participate in the worship and religious life of the congregation and school.

CLASSROOM AND SCHOOL:

Preschool – 8th grade school located in a rural setting, supported by an on-site congregation.
Technology: Internet access, smart boards, teacher-assigned laptops, and touch-screen Chromebooks for student use
Experienced Faculty and Staff, on-campus library, dedicated early childhood playground, large K-8th grade playground and soccer field.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly responsible for students under their care.

Church Member in good standing (LCMS preferred)
BA in Education
Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate, reciprocal teaching certificate from a partner state, or ability to obtain a Michigan teaching certificate.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong leadership skills.
Ability to multitask.

PREFERRED JOB SKILLS:

Proficiency with the use of smart technology, such as Promethean boards, Chromebooks, and online instruction
SLED certification
