JOB TITLE: Principal / 5th through 8th Grade Teacher
DEPARTMENT: Holy Ghost Lutheran School
LOCATION: Monroe, MI
REPORTS TO: Holy Ghost Lutheran Church PCC, BCDS
BASIC FUNCTION:
To provide School Administration and leadership of Staff and students. Additionally, instruct 5th through 8th grade students in a variety of subjects, to develop academic, social, and motor skills that prepare them for the high school grades.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The role is envisioned to be part time Principal and part time 5th through 8th Teacher, a full-time position.
• As Principal, works with the Board of Christian Day School (BCDS) to plan for the school year, develop curriculum needs, identify gaps in learning and facilities, and report activities to the BCDS routinely.
• As Principal, work with the Superintendent of schools to ensure the school is compliant to all state and federal regulations and is taking advantage of opportunities within the Lutheran school network.
• As Principal, assists with resolving disputes with staff, students, and staff/students/families, when necessary and can render discipline within the guidelines of the school.
• As Principal, works with the BCDS to perform evaluations of staff.
• As Principal, stays apprised of State of Michigan regulatory standards, and suggests curriculum and other changes necessary to comply with those standards.
• As Principal and/or Teacher, participates, and at times lead, the instruction of extra-curricular activities related to the school, including but not limited to: recruiting events, all-school drama night, fundraising events, and all-school choir at specified Sunday services.
• As Principal provides leadership for and participates in faculty meetings, educational conferences, professional training seminars and workshops.
• As Teacher, plans and develops course study suitable for a particular grade level, 5th through 8th grade, following curriculum guidelines of the school, state, and federal education departments. (Holy Ghost has compartmentalized learning for middle school aged students)
• As Teacher develops and presents specific lesson plans using a variety of means, including lectures, projects, group discussions, exhibits, field trips, audiovisual and library resources, computers, and the Internet.
• As Teacher prepares assignments and tests (as applicable) for in-school preparation and homework. Monitors, assists, corrects, and grades student performance.
• As Teacher conducts applicable standardized tests, in accordance with school polices and state law.
• As Teacher maintains order in the classroom and administers discipline when necessary to achieve proper behavior.
• As Teacher gives counsel to students when academic difficulties or behavioral problems arise.
• Keeps records of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation. Reports on all aspects of student development for school records and parents; conducts parent-teacher conferences on both a regularly scheduled and as-need basis.
• Consults with other professionals where there appears to be evidence of learning disabilities or problems of social adjustment. Coordinates decisions with parents concerning specialized interventions that appear warranted. Reports cases of suspected child abuse according to state law.
• Will work with and coordinate with the Pastor(s) regarding the spiritual leadership and life of the school, which may include, but not be limited to, the teaching of religion class(es).
• Will be faithful in the worship and religious life of the congregation and school.
CLASSROOM AND SCHOOL:
• Preschool – 8th grade school located in a rural setting, with a member congregation on site.
• A laptop computer is provided and the classroom has Internet access, a smart board, and up to 20 Chromebooks for use by students during specific instructional periods.
• On campus library, large playground, and experienced mentor educators.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The teacher is directly responsible for any student under the teacher’s care. As Principal, is responsible for the well-being of all students and staff.

• Church Member in good standing (LCMS preferred)
• BA in Education
• Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate, reciprocal teaching certificate from a partner state, or ability to obtain a Michigan teaching certificate.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Ability to multitask.
PREFERRED JOB SKILLS:
• Master’s in education
• Experience in an administrative role such as Principal or Vice-Principal
• Proficiency with the use of smart technology, such as Promethean boards, Chromebooks, iPads, and online instruction
• SLED certification
