Elementary School Teacher Job Description
Summary
The Elementary School Teacher is responsible for providing students with a biblically-integrated, high-quality academic education in a nurturing, Christ-centered environment. This role focuses on developing students’ intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth to help them achieve their full potential as mature, responsible Christians.
I. Spiritual and Professional Qualities
The ideal candidate must be a committed, growing Christian who models Christ-like behavior.
- Commitment to Faith: believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and be in agreement with the school’s Statement of Faith and Christian philosophy of education.
- Role Model: Demonstrate patience, integrity, humility, and kindness, serving as a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions toward students, parents, and staff.
- Active Church Membership: Maintain active membership and involvement in a Christian church.
- Called to Ministry: Possess a personal conviction of a divine calling to the teaching profession within a Christian school setting.
- Professionalism: Maintain a professional appearance and respectfully submit to constituted authority (administration/leadership).
II. Instructional Responsibilities
- Curriculum & Lesson Planning: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning across all elementary subjects (e.g., Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Religion).
- Biblical Integration: Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and all classroom activities, building a biblical worldview.
- Variety of Methods: Utilize a variety of instructional strategies (e.g., inquiry, group discussion, discovery, lecture) to meet the diverse learning needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
- Technology: Use appropriate educational technology to enhance lesson delivery and communication.
III. Classroom Management and Assessment
- Positive Environment: Establish and maintain a clean, attractive, well-ordered, and positive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
- Discipline: Employ consistent, fair, and Christ-centered principles of behavior management to guide student conduct in alignment with the school’s discipline policy.
- Spiritual Guidance: Lead daily devotional and prayer time, encourage students to develop a personal relationship with Christ, and facilitate discussions on biblical teachings and their practical application.
- Evaluation: Assess the learning of students regularly through various methods (tests, projects, discussions) and maintain accurate and current records of student progress and attendance.
IV. Communication and Collaboration
- Parent Communication: Maintain open and timely communication with parents regarding student academic progress and social/spiritual development through conferences, notes, email, and reports.
- Faculty Collaboration: Collaborate constructively with colleagues and administration to align curriculum, instructional strategies, and school policies.
- Meetings: Attend and participate in scheduled faculty meetings, professional development, in-service days, and other school functions (e.g., Open House, parent-teacher organization meetings).
- Supervision: Supervise students in all out-of-classroom activities as assigned (e.g., recess, cafeteria, field trips).
V. Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) from an accredited university.
- Certification: Valid State Teaching Certificate and/or certification by a Christian school organization (e.g., ACSI – Association of Christian Schools International) preferred.Experience: Prior teaching experience, especially in a Christian school environment, is often preferred.
