JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Elementary (K – 8) Physical Education Teacher and Athletic Director

REPORTS TO: Principal of St. Paul and Principal of St. John

JOB GOAL: To provide a developmentally and appropriate physical education curriculum to elementary students by introducing them to healthy habits in its many forms and traditions and encourage participation in activities while demonstrating proper sportsmanship behaviors. Position is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develop talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student’s ability.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree

2. Teaching experience preferred

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Establish and enforce rules for behavioral and procedures for maintaining a productive and well-discipline studio learning environment. 2. Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities. 3. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests. 4. Observe, evaluate and assess students’ learning. 5. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions. 6. Keep current with developments in the field by participating in professional organizations, professional readings, coursework and conferences. 7. Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate. 8. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects based on best practices, and communicate those objectives to the students. 9. Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, and administrators in order to assist/aid/improve students’ classroom difficulties. 10. Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children’s progress and to determine their priorities for their children. 11. Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by school policies, and administrative regulations. 12. Use technology and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations. 13. Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of administration. 14. Attend staff meetings, professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops and serve on committees in order to maintain and improve professional competence. 15. Collaborate with colleagues to understand and address Individual Education Plans, 504 Accommodation Plans and differentiated instruction. 16. Perform all other related duties as assigned by the Principal. 17.  Perform the duties of Athletic Director for St. Paul to maintain sports programs for grades 4 to 8.

Position Type:  Full time position with Physical Education instruction at both St. Paul Lutheran and St. John Lutheran.  Health Benefits provided through Concordia Plans.  Athletic Director responsibilities for St. Paul Lutheran.
