Preschool Teacher Assistant
The primary responsibility of the Preschool Teacher Assistant is to support the Preschool Director and assist in the day-to-day operations of the preschool program. Creating a nurturing and enriching environment where children can learn, grow, and develop spiritually, emotionally, socially, and academically.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assist Director/ Lead Teacher: Collaborate with the lead teacher to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities and lessons for preschool-aged children in accordance with Lutheran educational principles.
2. Supervision: Provide supervision and ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, both indoors and outdoors, during playtime, meals, and other activities.
3. Classroom Management: Help maintain a positive and nurturing classroom environment conducive to learning and growth. Assist with managing behavior and promoting positive social interactions among children.
4. Curriculum Support: Assist in the implementation of the preschool curriculum, including preparing materials, setting up learning centers, and facilitating hands-on activities that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
5. Individualized Support: Provide support and assistance to individual children as needed, including those with special needs or learning challenges, to ensure they are included and supported in classroom activities.
6. Clerical Tasks: Assist with administrative tasks such as record-keeping, attendance tracking, and preparing classroom materials.
7. Spiritual Development: Incorporate Lutheran values and teachings into daily activities and interactions, fostering the spiritual development of children in alignment with the mission and values of the Lutheran preschool.
8. Professional Development: Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and workshops to enhance your skills and stay updated on best practices in early childhood education.
9. Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all licensing regulations, health and safety standards (including cleaning), and Lutheran preschool policies and procedures.
10. Teamwork: Collaborate with other staff members and volunteers to create a supportive and cohesive preschool team focused on providing high-quality education and care to children and families.
11. Flexible Responsibilities: Be willing to take on additional responsibilities and tasks as needed to support the overall functioning of the preschool program.
Role Qualifications:
Hold a preschool CDA credential or state-awarded certificate that meets/exceeds the requirements for a preschool CDA credential.
Enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree in ECE or related field to be completed within 2 years of hire.
At least 2 years of experience working with preschool children is preferred.
All EC grads require completion of CPR/First Aid within a month of hire.
All grads must have a willingness to work towards any additional credentials needed to move to the next level in the position, this may include continued education.

Background Checks:
All employees are subject to both a pre-hire and an annual background check. A State of MI and Federal fingerprint background check is required and the frequency of all employees and unsupervised volunteers. Additional background checks may be required such as the Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry, and the Sex Offender Registry.
