JOB DESCRIPTION

Planning and Teaching

  • Prepares detailed lesson plans according to school expectations and grade level/subject standards
  • Develops a curriculum map for each subject taught where learning objectives are aligned with California State Standards and the schoolwide learner outcomes (SLO’s)
  • Uses a variety of teaching methodologies to create an engaging and safe classroom setting where all students are held to high standards of academic excellence
  • Integrate Biblical principles, Christian worldview, and prayer throughout the curriculum
  • Incorporate technology in meaningful ways into instruction and learning
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet student needs, interests, and abilities

 

Grading

  • Grades all assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects in a timely manner, using the grading scale provided by the school
  • Inputs grades weekly into the student information system
  • Maintain an accurate record for each student
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences 1-2 times during the school year
  • Submit quarterly grades by stated deadlines into the student information system

 

Classroom Management

  • Keeps an accurate record of all attendance and tardies for each student
  • Maintains discipline in the classroom to ensure maximum learning
  • Establish and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an effective learning environment
  • Provides an uncluttered, healthy, and neat classroom that promotes a good learning and working environment

 

Communication

  • Communicate with students, parents, other faculty, staff, counselors, and administrators regarding academic and behavioral issues
  • Returns phone calls, messages, and emails within 24 hours
  • Keeps an accurate record of all communications with parents
  • Maintain appropriate professional interaction with students, parents, administrators, co-workers, and other colleagues

 

Meetings and Events

  • Participates in daily faculty devotions
  • Attends weekly faculty meetings as scheduled
  • Participates in the following required school events: Teacher Installation Service, Baccalaureate, Graduation, Worship Services (when his/her class sings or performs), Christmas Program, Christmas Faire, and all activities relating to West Portal Lutheran School in which their class is involved.
  • Coordinates field trips and special events, as needed
  • Attends the faculty professional learning days every year, as scheduled by the school administration
  • Participates in accreditation tasks as assigned by the principal
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned

 

Other Responsibilities

  • Be familiar with the current Personnel Policy Manual and Parent Handbook.
  • Complete at least 30 hours of professional development each academic year. Attendance at all in-service and professional development days, including conferences, is mandatory.
  • Maintain certification in First Aid and CPR, Mandated Reporter, and Sexual Harassment
  • Called teachers will meet with the Senior Pastor in regards to Call Duties
  • All teachers not on the LCMS roster, or who have not completed colloquy or basic
    Lutheran Doctrine coursework, will be required to complete such coursework under the supervision of the pastor to the school
  • Faithfully attend worship services on a regular basis

 

JOB EXPECTATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS

 

Christian Faith

  • Identifies as Christian and is committed to growing in his or her personal Christian faith
  • Baptized, active member of a Christian church (preferably the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod)
  • Committed to full-time Christian education

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Teaching credential/certificate/license
  • Life-long learner who models intellectual curiosity, self-reflection, and stewardship of talents

 

Experience

  • At least 1-2 years of K-8 teaching experience
  • Trained and experienced in planning and executing lessons
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate best practices and up to date teaching methodologies in education
  • Proficient in subjects being taught
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by example
  • Ability to keep confidential information
