Position Title: Teaching Principal
Location: Zion Lutheran School, Pierce, Nebraska
Reports To: Board of Parish Education
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary:
The Lutheran School Teaching Principal provides spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership for a Christ-centered learning community. This individual will serve as both the spiritual leader and instructional leader of the school, ensuring a high standard of academic excellence while fostering a positive, faith-filled environment for students, staff, and families. The Teaching Principal will have significant teaching responsibilities while overseeing school operations, curriculum development, faculty supervision, and community relations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Spiritual Leadership:
· Lead the school community in fostering a Christ-centered environment in all activities and interactions.
· Integrate Lutheran values and teachings into the school’s curriculum, chapel services, and daily routines.
· Promote and encourage regular faith development for staff, students, and families.
· Support the spiritual growth of both faculty and students by leading devotions and providing mentorship.
2. Educational Leadership:
· Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the academic curriculum to ensure alignment with state and national standards, as well as the school’s mission.
· Provide instructional leadership to teachers, ensuring effective teaching strategies and professional development.
· Foster an environment of continuous improvement through observation, feedback, and evaluation of teaching practices.
· Ensure that students are receiving an education that meets their spiritual, emotional, academic, and social needs.
3. Administrative Responsibilities:
· Manage day-to-day operations of the school, including staffing, budgeting, and scheduling.
· Oversee student enrollment, admissions, and retention, including fostering relationships with prospective families.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal educational regulations.
· Supervise and evaluate faculty and staff, supporting their professional growth and maintaining high performance standards.
· Establish and maintain policies and procedures for the smooth operation of the school.
4. Faculty and Staff Development:
· Lead and promote professional development for staff, providing ongoing support and training in both teaching and Lutheran education.
· Build a collaborative and supportive environment among staff members, encouraging teamwork and mutual respect.
· Hire, onboard, and supervise all teaching and support staff, ensuring alignment with the school’s mission and values.
5. Community and Family Engagement:
· Establish strong communication channels with parents, faculty, students, and the broader church community.
· Act as the primary representative of the school to the broader church and community, attending church services, school events, and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders.
· Address concerns or issues raised by parents or members of the community in a timely and professional manner.
6. Budget and Resource Management:
· Work with the school’s Board of Education to develop and manage the school’s budget.
· Ensure effective resource management, including school supplies, instructional materials, and facilities.
· Seek out and manage fundraising efforts, including grants, donations, and school events.
Qualifications:
· Lutheran teacher diploma preferred for a call. Or willingness to obtain the LTD and contract.
· Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field (preferred).
· Valid teaching certification in the state of Nebraska.
· Strong commitment to Lutheran Christian education and church life.
· Minimum of 3-5 years of classroom teaching experience.
· Previous leadership or administrative experience in a school setting (preferred).
· Knowledge of Lutheran doctrine and practice is strongly preferred.
· Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to balance teaching responsibilities with administrative duties.
· Ability to foster a positive, Christ-centered school culture.
Working Conditions:
· Full-time, year-round position.
· Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for school events and meetings.
· Occasional travel for professional development or school events.
